BEST OF SPRING 2013: PROENZA SCHOULER

You can tell a Proenza Schouler design by its modern take on prints, textures and colours. This collection was no different. I loved that it became a ‘random’ mix of everything and still everything ties in so well. Loved the use of the digital print dresses at the end with the grommet details. The PS girl is always cool & modern.         Shop Proenza Schouler Ready to Wear here.

BEST OF SPRING 2013: JASON WU

I loved it! Loved it! Sexy femme fatale meets feminine – lace/ leather/sheer with cutouts and yet still retaining the femininity in all of his clothes. And of course his signature show stopping gowns at the end – full of wispy tulle & sheer chiffons.                     Shop Jason Wu at Shopbop.

    BEST OF SPRING 2013: RUFFIAN

Romantic florals x streetwear! Converse sneakers, casual jackets, knit overalls & flouncy tiered floral dresses. I love mix & matching high- low outfits that you can wear from day to night & still have a personality! Great job!             Images Credit: style.com

    FASHION IN FILM: MOONRISE KINGDOM

I got so excited when I saw a sneak peek on someone’s photoshoot on Instagram that totally was inspired by the whole Moonrise Kingdom/woodland/outdoorsy vibe. You know.. think feathers (those bird costumes), scout uniforms, plaid shirts, gingham picnic dresses etcetc. So innocent and childlike, just like the 2 young protagonists venturing away from home. It really reminds me of the stories I used to read about when I was a kid, about Swallows & Amazons, creating their amazing adventures in the outdoors. Been having a bit of wanderlust envy lately, and yet I want to go out there & explore these far flung places like Kosovo, Lake Como, Shangri-la, Burma, sand…

    RESORT 2013 COLLECTIONS

So nice! I would think that Resort collections are probably the most fun to design, as they are all about the fantasy of going somewhere nice & warm for vacation. Some place like St Barths or St Tropez etc, and getting all dressed up but also lounging around in long flowy maxi dresses with sandals. Loved the bright pops of colour with all the neon yellow going on, and the sheen of gold/silver skirts/jackets, and of course the geometric or floral prints. We don’t have seasons here in Singapore of course, so instead of going through Fall collections with their heavy, dull colours, I would totally skip right into Resort!…

    NIGHTWATCH

Ahh.. my own special Art Day. I went to a talk not too long ago & the speaker was talking about how everyone creative should go off & experience their own Art Days by themselves. I thought that was a very important thing, to refresh & renew. So of course I popped by the Singapore Art Museum. Loved it! Some really dark, brooding works by Chinese artist Jia Aili and then off to some interesting pop art-type stuff at the Art Garden at 8Q & the Learning Gallery. Pretty cool Asian contemporary stuff! What I love about art is that you look at it, you may or may not get…

    LV X YAYOI KUSAMA = JESSIE J??

One of my fav artists Yayoi Kusama is doing a collaboration with Louis Vuitton of all people. But yeah, I remember watching this documentary abt Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton, and he met the artist in Tokyo some back. Her art is pretty iconic, so I think it’ll be quite a hit! The capsule collection runs for about 2-3 months at each pop-up LV store across the world. Will this be the next thing for high-end designers? To do collaborations with artists to promote their brand? Cos we all know who first pushed the collab idea, it was H&M right..? Or Target? Looks like luxury brands are really pushing for presence everywhere…

SOMETIMES BEING WAY TOO DIFFERENT IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU

Yup! There I said it. It applies to everything fashion. You want to look different from everyone else, but you don’t want to look too different from everyone else. Get it? You still need to follow the trends but style yourself your own way with by mixing & matching. #tipoftheday (I for one like the strangest things – zombies, grindhouse, oldoldold buildings, baroque style, comedy nights, whisky)
